The above images are double page spreads of various magazines - I am going to use these magazines for layout and visual style ideas. The "American Gothic" magazine is stylistically closest to my invisioned magazine. I aim to imitate the simplicity and focus on a large picture shown in The "American Gothic" magazine, whilst at the same time focus on the old school, cultured style of some of the covers. The use of a monochromatic colour scheme and lomographic or HDR images is what I hope to include - this will give my magazine an aged, nostalgic and old school feel. Although i referred to the focus of one particular image; I like the use of additional smaller images - like snapshots. I will consider using this on my double page spread, I will aim for these smaller pictures to look like polaroids, old and withered pictures. Additionly, I feel the use of broken up/slanted article columns is very effective, especially when the text is styled around the edges of an image. I will also consider the use of pull quotes, this is to focus the attention to the page, however, I may not use them depending on how strictly I follow the style of the "American Gothic" magazine. Saying this, I will use many of my own ideas and styles when creating the magazine.
